Audrey Buddendeck
Hi! My name is Audrey and I am an artist sharing my work and experiences. I am a fourth-year art student at Alfred University earning my BFA in Art & Design with a minor in Arts Management.
I am from Rochester, NY and grew up using art as a means of personal expression and decided to make it my career.
I created this website as a personal blog of my experiences as a college student and artist, as well as a way to display my work. Tag along if you want to come on this journey with me as I learn more about who I am as an artist and what this life has to bring me.
Thank you,
Audrey
Artist statement
My artistic practice is a journey through the intricate landscapes of sensation and perception, where I employ the mediums of screenprinting, collage, and painting as vessels to navigate the depths of human consciousness. At the heart of my exploration lies a profound curiosity about the intricacies of womanhood, particularly as it unfolded in the tumultuous era of the 1960s.
In my current body of work, I delve into the multifaceted point-of-view of womanhood during this transformative period, shedding light on the content consumed by women and the societal constructs that shaped their experiences. Through a meticulous process of research and introspection, I seek to unravel the layers of meaning embedded within the cultural artifacts of the time, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.
Drawing inspiration from the avant-garde movements of surrealism and dadaism, I embrace the ethos of disruption and subversion to challenge conventional narratives and reimagine familiar imagery in new and mysterious ways. By juxtaposing disparate elements and blurring the boundaries between reality and the subconscious, I invite viewers to question their preconceptions and embark on a journey of discovery.
My artistic process is one of experimentation and exploration, where each layer of ink, each fragment of paper, and each brushstroke serves as a conduit for expression. Through the alchemy of color, texture and composition I strive to evoke a visceral response in the viewer, eliciting emotions that transcend language and rational thought.
As I navigate the labyrinth of memory and perception, my work becomes a testament to the resilience and complexity of the human spirit. It is a reflection of the universal quest for meaning and connection, weaving together threads of personal experience and collective memory to create a tapestry of visual storytelling.
In essence, my art is an invitation to journey beyond the surface of reality, to explore the hidden recesses of the psyche, and to embrace the beauty and mystery of the human experience. Through my work, I aim to provoke thought, inspire curiosity, and ignite a sense of wonder in the hearts and minds of all who encounter it.
